Police in Fort Portal have arrested two men for their alleged involvement in fuel siphoning.
The suspects are Kiruma Muzamiru, of Busembatya in Iganga district, working with Global Company Ntinda in Kampala and Robert Katumba, of Bweyogerere in Kampala’s Nakawa division.
They are accused of siphoning fuel from vehicles belonging to CICO company constructors. CICO Company is constructing the Fort Portal- Bundibugyo Lamya road.
CICO Company contracted the two drivers of Global Company Ntinda to transport two vehicles from Mombasa to Karugutu town council, in Ntoroko district.
Bakari Muga Bashir, the Western police spokes person, says that on arrival in Fort Portal town, the two drivers branched to Kalita Bus Park and parked the vehicles there and started siphoning fuel out of the trucks pouring it into the jerry cans.
Ill luck hit the two men, when concerned people alerted the police, leading to their arrest on Thursday afternoon.
Bakari says that the suspects are being detained at For Portal police station.
The police spokesperson, says CICO construction Company had reported many cases of fuel theft, saying this has slowed the road works.
