Unknown thugs have attacked Kabobera trading centre in Masaka district and hacked two people dead. Three others are injured and in critical conditions after the attack that took place between 10pm and 3am.
Unknown thugs have attacked Kabobera trading centre in Masaka district and hacked two people dead.
Three others are injured and in critical conditions after the attack that took place between 10pm and 3am. Those killed have been identified as Godfrey Mujumba and Ali Kulabako while those receiving treatment at Masaka referral Hospital are Muwonge Vincent, Musoga Kaviili and one unidentified person.
Fionah Zalwango, the wife of Ali Kulabako says the assailants came at around 10pm and called his husband to come out. She says when he demanded to know who they were, they hit the door open and hacked him in the stomach.
Zalwango says at this point, her husband made one loud cry and collapsed as he bled to death. She says she is now surviving with three children aged between three and seven years.
She says they also threatened to hack her if she dared say a word.

Francis Ssebula, the Kabonera Sub County Chairman says the thugs spent at least four hours rampaging in the area.
He says they made alarm but whoever dared to come and fight them was threatened because they kept scaring them by hitting their machetes on the tarmac at Kabonera trading centre along Masaka-Mutukula highway.
He says after some hours, the thugs ran away.

Vincent Muwonge is one of those nursing injuries. He was hacked on the head where he sustained three cuts.
He says he was attacked when he attempted to save Godfrey Mujumba, one of those killed. He says after cutting him, they ordered him to sleep on the ground and they left shortly after.

Lameck Kigozi, the Greater Masaka region Police spokesperson, says the bodies of those killed have been taken to Masaka hospital mortuary. He says police is hunting for the thugs.
Similar attacks have been registered in Masaka this year. By June, at least six people were killed and some 20 others injured after being attacked by unknown assailants. The latest attack has sparked off fresh fears in Masaka region.
