Two Kisoro district officials are in trouble for alleged theft of immunisation funds. They are Richard Semukyo, the Kisoro District Finance Officer and District Cashier, Charles Nsengiyunva. The duo was picked up on Thursday for alleged theft of Shillings 9.9 million meant for Polio and Measles immunization program early this year.

They were picked up by officials from the State House Medicines and Health Service Delivery Monitoring Unit. Dr. Diana Atwiine, the head of the State House Medicines and Health Service Delivery Monitoring Unit, says the duo was arrested during an ongoing health services nationwide monitoring exercise.

According to Dr. Atwine, they acted on a tip off from an insider at the district about the misuse of the immunisation funds. Dr. Atwine also says they received complaints that those who were involved in the exercise were not paid their facilitation allowances.

She says that when they approached the officers for explanation they gave contradictory statements and presented documents showing how the money was utilised. Edger Akankwasa, the Kisoro District Police Commander, says investigations into the matter are ongoing.
