Maracha has become the second district in West Nile to report cases of the MPox disease after Adjumani registered two cases.

In Zombo district, there is a sign of relief after seven suspected cases turned out to be negative according to the district health officer Mark Buramali. “We had these seven suspected cases whose samples we forwarded to Entebbe for testing and analysis but fortunate enough all of them turned out negative, I urge our people to remain vigilant,” said Buramali.

According to the MPox situation update 21 districts have been affected by the disease, with Kampala Capital City registering the highest number.

Meanwhile, leaders in Nebbi district are also on high alert after one case of Mpox was confirmed at Nebbi General Hospital.

Nebbi Resident District Commissioner Robert Abak said the victim made a self-referral from Panyimur health facility, Pakwach district and tested positive at Nebbi General Hospital.

“As the chairperson of the district task force, I can confirm that Nebbi district has now registered one Monkeypox virus case which puts the district in a very tricky situation to fight the virus given the dynamic of the situation on the ground” Abark said.

Sources from the hospital say the victim travelled by boda boda from Panyimur to Nebbi General Hospital.
