Two Ntungamo Councilors Perish In Road Accident

Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson, noted that the councilors died on the spot. He explains that the accident was reportedly exacerbated by adverse weather conditions, with rain making the roads slippery.
Ntungamo district is mourning the loss of two councilors in a motor accident. The dead are Monica Kutamba, the district works secretary and Ngoma Sub county LC V councilor, and Pius Tusiimire, his Nyarutuntu Sub-county counterpart and a member of the Finance committee. The accident occurred around 3 PM on Monday at Katinda-Kabagyenda in Ntungamo Municipality.

The councilors were on their way to Ngoma from Ntungamo Town when their Toyota Wish registration number UBH 873G, collided with a Fuso box body registration number UBD 660V, belonging to Nile Agro Industries, which was traveling from Rubaare. Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson, noted that the councilors died on the spot. He explains that the accident was reportedly exacerbated by adverse weather conditions, with rain making the roads slippery.

According to eyewitness Obed Mumbali, Tusiimire was driving the Toyota Wish at high speed in the rain and attempted to stop when he spotted the oncoming Fuso truck, causing the vehicle to spin and face backward in the middle of the road. This led to a collision with the oncoming traffic, resulting in the demise of both councilors.

Denis Muhuumuza, the Itojo Sub County LC V Councilor, revealed that Kutamba had urgent commitments at the District headquarters. As the rain intensified, she called Tusiimire for a ride home, leading to the fateful accident. Samuel Mucunguzi, the Ntungamo LC V Chairperson expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate accident and acknowledged the valuable contributions of the departed councilors, describing them as hardworking and polite individuals.

Nicholas Twikiriize Mugyenyi, the Ntungamo District Speaker, announced that a special council meeting will be held on Wednesday to pay tribute to both councilors who served their electorate diligently.
