Police in Soroti is investigating circumstances under which two
people were found dead in Camp Swahili Ward, Soroti City.
The victims are Simon Okiror, 28- year- old Boda- Boda cyclist and 88-
year- old Arab National, Abud Zabun. Okiror was found lying unconscious in the
corridor of Strikers Hotel in Camp Swahili and he died moments later on
Thursday morning while Zabun was found dead in his house.
Information from sources in Camp Swahili indicates that Zabun was
a landlord to Okiror and the duo were very close friends. It is alleged
that Zabun, on Wednesday received huge sums of money after selling part of his
property in Soroti.
Zabun, who was living alone in his house had also planned to relocate
to his new house in Kengere but was attacked by unknown
assailants in the wee hours of Thursday morning.
Julius Esenu, a resident
says that Okiror, after hearing the noise from Zabun’s house came out but was
also attacked by the same assailants.
“Okiror seems to have recognized these assailants after coming out of his
house. He was hit by the assailants who rushed out of the area since it was
coming to daybreak”, he said.
But Isaac Odeke, the homicide detective at Central Police Station in Soroti
says that post-mortem report for Okiror shows cardiac failure. He explains that
Okiror died while seeking help from his friend Lawrence Opio from Strikers
Odeke also notes that while Okiror didn’t have any visible injuries and
bruises, Zabun had bruises on his body.
