Two People Shot Dead in Lira Highway Robbery

The deceased are identified as Kassim Okello - a salesman attached to Bidco Company-Lira office, and a police Constable Patrick Ojok who was guarding the team. They were traveling from a routine sale in Amolatar district to Lira town when their vehicle, a Tata - UAT 635Y was waylaid.
Two people are confirmed dead following an attack by unknown gunmen on a Bidco Company team in Lira district last night. The incident occurred at Amach market 12km along Lira- Soroti Highway.

The deceased are identified as Kassim Okello - a salesman attached to Bidco Company- Lira office, and a police Constable Patrick Ojok who was guarding the team. They were traveling from a routine sale in Amolatar district to Lira town when their vehicle, a Tata - UAT 635Y was waylaid.

Mansur Suwed, Central North Regional Police spokesperson said an unspecified amount of money was stolen.

Mansur said the gunmen also took a gun which the killed policeman was holding but later dropped it about 150 meters away from the scene of crime.

Denis Opio, the cashier who survived the attack told police that they first had a mechanical breakdown at Kangai trading Centre in Dokolo district about 50km away from the scene of crime. The driver supposedly contacted the BIDCO area Manager who promised to send another vehicle to rescue the team.

They were expected to meet at Amach where they were later attacked from.
