Two senior police officers attached to Otuke Central Police Station in Otuke district are in trouble for extortion. The suspects are Assistant Superintendent of Police, Aggrey Kasimire and another only identified as Kwesiga.

The two officers were arrested last week and detained for several hours at the North Kyoga Region Police headquarters in Lira Town. The officers are being investigated by the Police Standard Unit at North Kyoga Regional police headquarters.

The officers are alleged to have waylaid unidentified Kampala based businessman in Otuke town council on April 2nd, 2018 and confiscated his 200 bags of charcoal in transit to Kampala.

The officers reportedly asked the businessman to pay them Shillings 2 million to release his charcoal, which he did. John Wafula, the Otuke Resident District Commissioner, says the officers asked the businessman to send them the money through a mobile agent and retrieved it.

He says several unscrupulous police officers always extort money from charcoal traders. David Ongom Mudong, the North Kyoga Region Police spokesperson confirmed the officers are being investigated by PSU.
