The junior team has embarked on training ahead of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Under 19 World Cup Qualifiers slated for October 14-23 in Malaysia.
Justine Ligyalingi, told URN on Tuesday that the 18 players under the guidance of coach Henry Okecho are training at Lugogo. “We have picked a strong squad and we shall continue to monitor them before submitting the final 14 early next month,†added Ligyalingi.
He said the team will have international build-up matches against their Kenyan counterparts next week.
Last month the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that the tournament moves to Kaula Lumpur, Malaysia because of challenges in Nepal. The tournament was originally going to be held in Nepal, but due to the earthquake in April it was moved to Malaysia.
After the changes Uganda also requested ICC to make changes in the dates because some of their players will be busy sitting for examinations around the same time, but the world Cricket body rejected.
Some of the players on the team include; John Gabula, David Wabwire, Joseph Byaruhanga and Ronald Opio.
Coach Okecho said he is confident with alot of hard work the players named will be good enough to battle for a place at the World Cup. Uganda will join Nepal, Papua New Guinea, USA and Ireland in the qualifiers to get one representative for the Youth World Cup to take place in India net year.
