With the emerging developments at the university, a new main gate was constructed, however the current Vice Chancellor Dr Aaron Mushengyezi says the old gate (Bishop Tucker gate) portrays the glory and genesis of UCU but it has been ignored over years.
Uganda Christian University-UCU has embarked on
renovating Bishop Tucker Theological collage old main gate. It shall bear the
university emblem and get a general facelift.
The gate used to serve as the main entrance for the
Anglican theological institution that used to train religious leaders in the
country before it was expanded to turn into a university that caters for several
academic disciplines.
With the new developments that have been emerging at
the university, a new gate was constructed and considered as the main gate however
the current Vice Chancellor Dr Aaron Mushengyezi says the old gate (Bishop Tucker gate) portrays the
glory and genesis of UCU but it has been ignored over years.
He believes that the entrance bears blessings from
the founding fathers who started the institution. The gate is located in the
face of UCU’s Bishop Tucker building the oldest block at Mukono campus that accommodates
the top administrative office and the scriptural union.
The renovation is part of other developments that
shall follow under the development partnership with Prime media network. Mushengyezi
says the university entered into a partnership to beautify the campus starting
this February.
Other developments shall include a food court with cafeteria,
commercial block housing restaurants and other groceries, water fountain, walk
ways, a good parking area for about 144 vehicles, kiosks providing
internet services, information inquiry and internet protocol data center. The
entire project shall consume 4billion shillings.
The university has been managing its canteens in containers
that carry goods and vehicles could park along the pathways and grass due to
lack of a well-designed parking yard for vehicles.
