UCU Lady Canons Move Closer to Basketball League Title

Defending champions of the ladies National Basketball league, Uganda Christian University Lady Canons are just a game away from retaining their title after stopping KCCA Leopards 67-60 on Saturday night.

Defending champions of the ladies National Basketball League, UCU Lady Canons are just a game away from retaining their title after stopping KCCA Leopards 67-60 on Saturday night.

The UCU Lady Canons now lead the best of seven series 3-0.

In a hotly contested third game played at the YMCA Arena in Wandegeya, the  KCCA side led the first and second quarter 24-10 and 20-14 before the UCU side took the third quarter 17-10.

A good play by the UCU side saw them score their highest in the final quarter 26-6 to ensure a final result of 67-70.

UCU's Judith Nansobya Ayoo made a game high 25 points while Angella Lokwaramoi made 12 points. For KCCA side Cynthia Irakunda made 9 points, and Larissa Katungeko made 13 points.

The win means UCU needs one win out of the four remaining games to emerge champions, while KCCA must will all the four games.

Both teams represent Uganda in the Zone Five Afro basketball championship. The men's team will be represented by defending champions City Oilers and Kampala International University(KIU) Titans who are to face off in a January final.
