The leadership of Uganda Beach Soccer Association-UBSA have embarked on efforts to popularize the sport in the different parts of the country. UBSA’s technical team is currently engaged in nationwide talent scouting involving conducting trials for youthful individuals.

On Sunday, 32 youths from different parts of Eastern Uganda underwent trials at the Njeru based FUFA technical center in Buikwe district. Twenty participants made it through the trials, which included physical fitness, health checks and dribbling skills.

They will be introduced to beach soccer clubs participating in the UBSA league. UBSA Technical Director, Bashir Mutyaba says that the sport is majorly concentrated in Kampala metropolitan area.

He says that after the success of the Sand cranes in the just concluded Beach AFCON competitions, they realized the need to scout more talent from other parts of the country. Mutyaba argues that their initiatives will not only develop the sport in the country but also draw interested individuals to invest in the sport.

He, however, notes that the sport continues to face a challenge due to the lack of standard facilities in upcountry areas.

Majojo Hambali, the proprietor of Jinja Lion’s beach soccer club, says that the sport is less competitive and very easy for interested footballers to develop their talents and make career breakthroughs.
