Officials from the Uganda Beach Soccer Association-UBSA are
optimistic about identifying more players to boost the sand cranes team ahead
of the 2021 AFCON tournament in Senegal.
The sand cranes were slated to play with Ghana in the AFCON qualifiers in
March, however, Ghana withdrew from the competitions. This allowed Uganda to automatically
sail through to the tournament.
The tournament will now be played next month in Senegal. UBSA officials say that with the ongoing
beach soccer league of the 2020/2021 season at the Njeru based FUFA technical
centre, there is an opportunity for benchmarking and identifying better
This eight-day beach soccer league which began on Thursday is
expected to end next week. It attracted six clubs namely; Kilinga ente soccer
club, MUBs, St. Lawrence University, Buganda royal institute, Mutola FC and Entebbe

Mutebi says that the sand cranes technical team has resolved to pitch camp at
the FUFA Technical centre throughout the league, to ascertain each player’s fitness
and capability to perform in a more competitive environment.

Mutebi further reveals that players had backtracked on their
fitness following the uncertainties which resulted from the covid-19 lockdown,
however, he says that players are slowly regaining their soccer form and
equally playing their best.

Faizal Mohammed, a sports analyst says that UBSA should devise
means of popularizing beach soccer throughout the different parts of the
country, which will increase competitiveness within the league and also in turn
