The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has confirmed that Uganda Cranes will face former African Champions Zambia on March 5 in an International friendly at the Ndola Stadium.

Edgar Watson, the FUFA Chief Executive Officer, told URN this afternoon that they had managed to secure the friendly. The Cranes had hoped to face Democratic Republic of the Congo on the same FIFA date, but negotiations with the DRC FA fell through.

In their last meeting at the same Stadium in a 2013 African Cup of Nations qualifier, the Chipolopolo beat Cranes 1-0, before the Ugandans forced a win in Kampala by the same score. In the penalties Zambia emerged victorious and qualified for the 2012 Nations Cup finals, going on to emerge champions.

Watson said they are happy to have such a high profile friendly with one of the biggest teams on the continent. He said they are certain that the friendly will help the coach test out his players against a good team.

The Cranes who failed to go past the group stages of the 2014 Africa Nations Championship will use the game as one of the build-ups for the 2015 Nations Cup qualifiers where they will start in the preliminary round.

Mujib Kasule, the FUFA Vice President in-charge of the League and chairman of the technical Committee said they will name the team early next week so that they can have some days to prepare.
