Uganda Cubs Finish Third In CECAFA U-17 Event

Uganda Cubs have settled for third place at the on-going 2018 CECAFA U-17 Championship which ends in Burundi on Sunday.

In the play-off game played at the Ngozi Stadium on Saturday, the Uganda Cubs stopped Kenya 4-1. Rogers Mugisha and Juma Ibrahim made sure coach peter Onen's team took a 2-0 lead at the interval.

After recess Mugisha and Juma Ibrahim added two more goals for Uganda Cubs, while Isaiah Abwel netted the consolation goal for the Kenya team.

To reach the play-off Uganda Cubs lost to surprise package Somalia 1-0 at the semi final stage. Uganda Cubs started the tournament with a 1-1 draw against Tanzania, before defeating Sudan 3-0 in their second group B game.

On Sunday Somalia will battle Tanzania in the final to be graced by the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Ahmad Ahmad.

The regional tournament is financed by the world football governing body under the FIFA forward programme. Next month Rwanda will host the CECAFA Women's Championship slated for May 12-22 in Kigali.
