Uganda Defeats Singapore In Entebbe

The Uganda Cricket Cranes returned to winning ways stopping Singapore by 66 runs at the Entebbe Cricket Oval on Wednesday as the 2017 International Cricket Board (ICC) World Cricket League Division 3 entered Day 2.

Smarting from an opening loss to Canada on Monday, the Uganda Cricket Cranes came all out to bat first and put on 217/9 in 50 overs, while Singapore chased to collapse at 151/ 9 (44 overs).

Arnold Otwani and Shahzad Ukani picked 47 and 46 runs respectively for Uganda, while Singapore's Chaminda Ruwan Kumarage picked 40 runs. Uganda had a run rate of 4.34, while Singapore had 3.43.

In another game played at the Lugogo Cricket Oval, Canada recorded a second win after seeing off Oman by 83 runs. On Tuesday they defeated hosts Uganda by 66 runs. The two wins gives them the lead with four points ahead of all the other five teams.

Against Oman Bhavindu Adhihetty and Rizuan Cheema picked 44 and 42 runs respectively to give Canada 274/9 in 50 ovals. Later after recess the Oman team tried to chase and collapsed at 191 (40.5 ovals). Zeeshan Maqsood picked a game high 63 runs for Oman.

It was also a winning day for the USA team that stopped Malaysia by 6 wickets with 132 balls remaining at the Kyambogo Cricket Oval. Malaysia batted first to score a miserable 117 in 40.5 overs, while USA replied with 118/4 in 28 overs. Ibrahim Khaleel picked a game high 49 runs for USA.

Action will continue on Friday with Uganda taking on Oman, Singapore battle USA, while Canada travel to Entebbe to face bottom placed Malaysia.

The best two teams will qualify for slots in Division 2 and also make it to the next round of the 2019 World Cup qualifiers.
