Uganda Humbles South Africa's Prison Men Netball Team in International Opener

The Rock won thier first game
The Uganda Men’s netball team, The Rock, has opened their International Netball Championship campaign with a decisive 90-10 defeat of South Africa’s Department of Correctional Services-DCS in Pretoria South Africa.  

Uganda enjoyed most of the play, winning all quarters. The first quarter ended with Uganda leading 28-0 before adding 18 goals to end the first half with 46-2. In the third quarter, Uganda added 21 goals to their scoresheet putting 67 -5 ahead of their opponents. 

They added 23 more goals in the closing quarter to push the score mark 90-10 in favour of The Rock. Although Uganda is making their maiden appearance in the championship after more than 10 days without engaging in any competitive game, the men under the stewardship of Coach Vincent Kiwanuka managed to register a perfect start.

Uganda’s next opponents will be hosts South Africa.  According to the tournament’s fixture, The Rock will return to the court again at 7:00 pm for their second game of the tournament before they battle ACTION Sports Club and Kenya respectively, tomorrow.

The tournament has attracted several teams and clubs from Africa including hosts South Africa, Uganda and Kenya among others. This is Uganda’s first engagement in men’s Netball since 2008 when the U-21 team participated in the U-21 championship in Nairobi Kenya. 

Uganda will use this tournament to prepare players for Inaugural Africa National Male Netball Cup to take place in March 2022 in Morocco.
