Uganda’s National top football league, Star Times Uganda Premier League season 2021/22 is set to kick off 15th of October 2021.The league secretariat has released the draft fixtures for the first round of the upcoming 2021-22 season.

According to the opening fixtures of 15th October 2021, defending champions Express will start their title defense against newly promoted Arua Hill FC at their Betway Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.

Mbarara City will also host Solitlo Bright stars at Kakyeka stadium in Mbarara while Onduparaka will take on UPDF FC at Green light stadium in Arua on the same dates.

However, Busoga United was not included on the draft fixture after failing to register a minimum number of 15 players which is a mandatory requirement before registering for the league under the Fufa Club licensing rules. This prompted the FUFA Deputy CEO in charge of Football to order for elimination of Busoga United.

Busoga United Head of Communications Director Lawrence Israel Olowo also told URN that the club failed to register the players under the stipulated dates, he however made it clear that they have already fulfilled what us required from the local soccer governing body and they are only waiting for the response from the Federation. The final draft of fixtures is expected to be released on Monday 4th October 2021.

The League will return to action after almost five months without any games being played. The last contest was ended prematurely after the outbreak of the second wave of Covid-19 that forced the President to suspend all sporting activities.

Consequently, the ten table leader Express FC which had 58 points was declared the champions of the league to register their first silverware in almost a decade. URA finished second on the table with 57 points.

Meanwhile, several premier league clubs have enhanced their squads ahead of the new season. KCCA FC has signed over 11 players including new custodian Benjamin Ochan who came in to succeed departed Charles Lukwago.

Other new players include Defender Geoffrey Wasswa, Brian Majwega, Innocent Wafula among other players.

Defending champions Express have also signed five new players including new custodian Joel Mutakubwa who came in to replace Mathias Muwanga. Other signings include defender Deus Bukenya, Midfielder Nicholas Kasozi, Forward Joseph Akandwanaho and Raymond Walugembe.

Express FC Head coach Wasswa Bbosa said he is sure the new signings will enhance the Wankulukuku based team in their bid to defend the 2021/22 Uganda Premier League season.

“We have made a few additions to the team because we obviously had departures, i believe the technical team made the right decisions in all departments and that the new faces know what is at stake," he said.  "We intend to defend the titles we won (the league and Kagame Cup) and I am convinced this squad will deliver the holy grail.”

Bbossa said the 2021/22 season league comes months after the President okayed the resumption of outdoor sporting activities. The Federation will only allow 200 fans in the stadium and that will only be granted if the home team apply to FUFA before the game.
