The FDC National Chairperson, Wasswa Biriggwa clarified their position on the people power campaign, saying it is a child of defiance. He called onto opposition parties to harmonize their forces in the struggle to liberate Uganda.
Uganda is a pseudo democracy, according to Patrick Amuriat Oboi, the forum for Democratic Change-FDC party President. He disclosed this during the parallel Independence Day celebrations at the FDC party headquarters in Najjanankumbi in Kampala.
He expressed dismay over the suppression of freedoms in the country despite celebrating 56 years of independence.

He also criticised the extravagant expenditure by government while service delivery remains poor. Amurait recalled the times when health services were free, effective and efficient.

Speaking at the same celebrations, Betty Ochan Aol, the Leader of Opposition congratulated Ugandans upon attaining Independence. She however noted that Ugandans are not independent as they should because of continuous manipulation by the ruling government.
//Cue in: “If we try…”
Cue out: “…governance is paramount”
She also noted that people's views are not well represented as most legislators are self-seekers and no longer respect the views of their electorate.

The FDC Party Spokesperson, Ibrahim Semujju Nganda explained that they decided to hold parallel celebrations because those national celebrations have been turned into a political party affair.
He says they opted for a low key event to avoid unnecessary expenditure and cited the example of Tanzania's President John Pembe Magufuli who banned high profile National Independence Day celebrations to channel the money into infrastructural development.
