Uganda to Face Giants Zambia in COSAFA Women's Championship

The tournament meant for senior women's teams organised under the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) will tale place September 15-26th in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Uganda women’s senior team, the Crested Cranes has been drawn in Group C of the COSAFA Women Challenge Cup 2021 alongside Zambia, Namibia and Eswatini (formerly known as Swaziland).   

The tournament meant for senior women's teams organised under the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) will tale place September 15-26th in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

During the draws conducted today the organisers made it clear that competition will be played under strict COVID-19 protocols, which include a bio-secure bubble for all teams and officials involved according to the organizers. Tanzania and South Sudan are the other guest sides from the CECAFA region that will take part in the championship.

The tournament will help teams to prepare before the start of the qualifiers for the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations that are scheduled to begin in October, providing competing sides with the chance to fine-tune their plans for their bid to reach the continental showpiece.

This will a great platform for team Uganda that had spent close to two years without active Football. Ahmed Hussein, FUFA Communications Director told Uganda Radio Network that the technical team will come up with their plan to kick off preparations in the next days.  

In other groups, hosts South Africa will take on Angola, Malawi and Mozambique in Group A, with only the top team guaranteed a place in the semifinals while Group B contains Botswana, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and South Sudan.
