Uganda to Face Mauritius, Nigeria in FIBA 3X3 Africa Cup

The Uganda Silverbacks 3x3 team will today faceoff with Mauritius and Nigeria in the first day of the FIBA 3X3 Africa Cup.

The Uganda Silver-backs 3x3 team will today face off with Mauritius and Nigeria in the first day of the FIBA 3X3 Africa Cup.   

The games taking place from today to Sunday at the Hockey grounds, Lugogo Kampala has attracted 12 teams from Djibouti, Burundi, Nigeria, Benin, Mauritius, Egypt, Madagascar, Kenya, Mali, Democratic Republic of Congo , Botswana and hosts Uganda.

The games are both for male and female, adults and under 18.  Ugandan men will face off with Mauritius at 5pm at the main court and later play Nigeria at 9.00pm today. 

Uganda Gazelles, the female team face off tomorrow at 6;50 pm with Nigerian women, before facing Kenya at 8.20 pm same day.  The Opening ceremony of the games will be at 7:40 before the Democratic Republic of Congo play Burundi.     

The Uganda Silver backs team is comprised of Syrus Kiviri, Ivan Lumanyika, James Okello, and Mark Opio. The Ladies team has Ritah Imanishimwe, Zainah Lokwameri, Hope Akello  and Brenda Ekon.     

For the Ugandan boys under 18 team, the players are; Cranmer Wamala, Victor Bwana, ,Harry Livingstone and Fayed Baale, while the girls under 18 teams are comprised of Maria Najjuma, Fildaus Namulema, Esther Kwagala and Shadia Mbwali.  The Cup will attract 192 players both men and women playing in senior and the U-18 categories.     

Uganda and Federation of International Basketball Association (FIBA) signed a 3-year agreement to host the FIBA 3X3 Africa Cup from 2019 to 2021.

3×3 basketball is a game that is growing fast and has been included in Olympics. In the 3x3 basketball game, there are three plays in a game and they play half court. The game ends when a team clocks 21 points, or when the 10 minutes of the game is done.

The Ugandan team has played several competitions facing off with the best in the world. Their last game was in the World Cup in China.
