Uganda's badminton team will face a tough test when they battle England in the first Group C on April 5th at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia.
According to the schedule after battling England in the first team event, Uganda's team led by Edwin Ekiring will face hosts Australia and South Africa on April 6th.
The classification and semi finals will be played on April 7-8 with all games taking place at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre. “We are getting prepared for our first game and the players are responding well. We expect Ekiring to fly from Holland on Monday,” team coach Gilbert Ofuyuru told URN on Sunday.
Ekiring who has participated in two Olympic Games and Three Commonwealth games will be making his last appearance in national team colours before he retires to concentrate on playing club badminton in Europe.Uganda's team also has Brian Kasirye, Shamim Bridget Bangi and Aisha Nakayemba.
In Group B the two African teams Zambia and Mauritius will have to be at their best against Singapore and Jamaica, while Ghana and Seychelles are in Group D alongside Canada and Malaysia. Group A is that has India, Scotland, Pakistan and Sri Lanka is seen as the group of death.
Besides badminton Uganda will also field athletes in Weightlifting, Netball, Rugby, Boxing, Squash, Swimming, Cycling, Shooting, Table Tennis and Track & field events.
