The newly opened
Justice, Law and Order Centre in Rubirizi district, has excited residents. The 1.6 billion Shillings
facility houses the Magistrate’s court, the Offices of the Director
of Public Prosecution and police station.

Frank Kyakamara Karugaba, a resident of Kirugu, says the new center is a huge
sigh of relief because they have been renting space for police and magistrate’s
court to access Justice.

In his speech, the
Chief Justice, Bart Katureebe noted that a study carried out by The Hague Institute for Innovation of Law showed that only 5 per cent of rural Ugandans can
access Justice, noting the huge gap in the Justice sector.

The Justice and
Constitutional Affairs Minister, Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu who represented the
president, said there is need to take judicial services nearer to the people if
the country is be transformed.
