UGX137 Million Raised From Makerere University Run

A total of Shs66.8million was collected from sponsors while Shs61million was realised through sales of run kits bringing the total amount to Shs128million. An additional Shs9.2million was received in kind through sponsorship.
Makerere University authorities have disclosed that a total of Shs137 million was realized during the run from students, staff and well-wishers.

This was the Second Edition of the Makerere University Endowment Fund Run (MakRun) 2018 that was held last month, aimed  at supporting the Fund's inaugural project, the “Students Centre”, estimated to cost Shillings 15 Billion.

In a statement released by Dr. Martin Aliker, the Chairperson Board of Trustees of the Makerere University Endowment Fund (MakEF), the money was both in cash and pledges.

A total of Shs66.8million was collected from sponsors while Shs 61million was realized through sales of run kits bringing the total amount to Shs128million. An additional Shs9.2million was received in kind through sponsorship.

“On behalf of Makerere University and on behalf of MakEF, would like to sincerely thank our sponsors and all those who participated in the Mak Run 2018 for their selfless contribution.

The enthusiasm and good will exhibited during the 2018 MakRun gives us hope that our dream of the Students Centre at Makerere University will one day become a reality,” said Dr. Aliker in a statement.

The MakEF was established in 2014 as one of the strategies to raise funds for the University and through its mandate to achieve long term financial sustainability for the University established the annual Makerere University Run (MakRun).

During last year's run, Shillings 247 Million was raised.

The students' Centre project will comprise of a one stop information point for students, office space for the Dean of Students, an international office for foreign and exchange students, guild offices, convocation and societies/associations, students lounge, post boxes for students and meeting rooms.

It will also host the state of the art auditorium/ performing arts theatre, commercial space for restaurants, banks, student support services, shopping areas, laundry services, food courts and cafeterias, bookshops, day care centres, internet kiosks, media and recreation rooms, among others.
