The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) will spend UGX500 million towards the Uganda Cranes preparations and trip to Cape Verde for the first 2019 Afcon qualifier Group L match.

Decolas Kiiza, the Fufa director of Finance told URN on Friday afternoon that most of the money will be spent on the airfares and allowances. The team traveled to Addis Ababa yesterday ahead of an international friendly against Ethiopia on Saturday.

Coach Milutin ‘Micho' Sredojevic will also lead the team against 2017 Afcon quarter finalists Senegal in another friendly in Dakar on June 6th before connecting to Praia City where they face Cape Verde on June 10th.

Kiiza also explained that all the expenses are being catered for by the Federation as they did not involve the government this time. “We thought it wise to start the campaign using some of the money the Federation generated from different sources before the other games spread though out the two years,” he added.

Sredojevic expects KCCA FC and goalkeeper Denis Onyango in Ethiopia before they travel to Senegal. KCCA FC will be involved in a CAF Total Confederations Cup game against Nigeria's Rivers United FC on Saturday, while Onyango will be busy with Mamelodi Sundowns in a CAF Total Champions League tie.

Sredojevic told URN that he expects the two build-up games to help his players shape up well ahead of the tough battle in Cape Verde. Striker Emmanuel Okwi who was not part of the team at the 2017 Afcon in Gabon is now part of the team together with Vipers SC youngster Milton Karisa, Hassan Wasswa Mawanda, Farouk Miya and Khalid Aucho are all part of the team.
