Provisional results indicate Uhuru Kenyatta is the winner of the 2013 Kenya presidential elections.  Uhuru garnered 6, 173, 433 votes out of 12, 222,980 votes cast in the 291 constituencies.

The Kenyan Deputy Prime Minister who was running under the Jubilee Alliance coalition managed to score 50.03 percent to finally clinch the presidency in a hard-fought race.

His closest challenger and Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga got a total of 5, 340, 546 votes to fall short with 43.28 per cent of the total votes cast.

This was Kenyatta’s second bid for the presidency. He ran and lost in 2002 despite being endorsed by then out-going Kenyan president Daniel Arap Moi. He was then the head of the Kenya African National Union (KANU). Today Kenyatta leads the The National Alliance Party (TNA).

Kenyatta's win poses a challenge for Kenya and the international community as the president-elect and his running mate William Ruto faces charges of crimes against humanity in the ICC.

The charges of inciting violence in the aftermath of the December 2007 elections that saw more than 1200 people killed and thousands displaced.
