UMA Asks Police to Expedite Investigations into Death of ENT Surgeon

The Uganda Medical Association (UMA) has called for quick investigations into the murder of Dr Wilfred Olila, an Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) surgeon who was murdered on his way from work on Friday.

Speaking to URN on Sunday, Hebert Luswata, the UMA President said Olila who was both a lecturer at Soroti University and a medical practitioner in private practice had left New Moroti Clinic at around 7 pm with surgeries scheduled for the next day, only to be found dead.

Luswata who condemns the violent attack on his colleague said the deceased body was found tied up with ropes and abandoned with the only identifier on him being the blue branded T-shirt of the medical association.

Dr Olila graduated from Makerere University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery before proceeding to pursue a Masters of Medicine in otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck surgery in 2008.

Luswata says brutality against health workers is a grave injustice and that police need to quickly bring perpetrators of such crimes to book.
