UMEME, the distributors of electricity have come under the spotlight for allegedly offering persistent power outages in Hoima.
During a meeting on Sunday, at Happy land gardens Kiryetete both domestic and commercial power consumers accused the company of disconnecting them without notice and providing power to grasshopper trappers.
UMEME has also been accused of inflating the bills despite the intermittent powere supplies.
William Kyahurwa the district councilor for Hoima town council said his bill are always being hiked by the officials and yet power goes off every day.
They accused the company of incompetence and want their contracts terminated.
Peter Mayanja the NRM chairman for Kiryateete east and also a businessman said company’s contract should be revoked, because UMEME has made people poorer through persistent losses.
Mayanja says the contract should be handed back to Uganda Electricity Board, which did the work perfectly.
But Doreen Ogenga the manager UMEME Hoima branch apologized for the anomalies and promised that his company would look into the matter.
She however says that the low volumes of water levels at the power generating dams have caused the persistent power outages.
Ogenga also says that the Hoima line has also experienced some mechanical breakdowns, which are being worked on.
