The Uganda Management Institute (UMI) has unveiled plans for the construction of a maiden virtual library in Gulu district.
Authorities of the largest management training institute in Uganda say the server of the digital library will be hosted in its Gulu Campus, located opposite the Mayor's Gardens in Gulu Town.
The facility will be equipped with electronic database of essential information on majority of sectors of the country's economy, online books, journals, policies and major research findings amongst others.

Dr. Nkata says when completed, the world class library will be the single biggest one-stop centre of accurate and reliable information for government and private sector, e-learning and innovation and research. He says making such economic databank available will spur development, economic growth and transformation of the land locked country.

To accomplish this vision in the near future, Dr. Nkata urged government through the Ministry of Education and sports to fully support the development.

The minister was representing the deputy Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah at the institution's graduation ceremony on Friday. He said Parliament will fully back the institute to undertake such a development.
The institute on Friday conferred post graduate diploma certificates to 157 graduates comprised of 65 females and 92 males; in the disciplines of monitoring and evaluation (M&E), project planning and management, human resource management and development, Public Financial management and Public administration and management amongst others.
The Institute's Chancellor Geraldine Namirembe Bitamizire advised the graduates to shun corruption and maintain a high degree of ethics in execution of their duties.
Uganda has a robust expanding information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector that has seen major growth in broadband internet.
The country's Vision 2040 outlines further infrastructure development in electricity, railways, domestic air transport and better road networks amongst others.
