UN SG Asks for Nuclear Free World

A world without nuclear weapons will be safer and more prosperous, the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has said.







Addressing a meeting celebrating the 15th anniversary of the comprehensive nuclear test ban treaty in Vienna, Ban said disarmament is critical to world peace.

More than 180 countries have signed the treaty, which bans nuclear explosions everywhere on the planet.







But while the majority of states have ratified the treaty, it still needs the ratification of eight countries to become legally effective.







Those countries are China, Egypt, India, Israel, Iran, North Korea, Pakistan and the United States.
