“Basing on the material availed, UNEB Examinations Security Committee proceeded with the hearing and it was proven that you presented a forged PLE result slip No. 33269/058 -1999 in 2014 when you sat for Uganda Certificate of Education – UCE,” reads part of Odongo’s letter to Mugabe.

Uganda
National Examination Board – UNEB has cancelled the academic papers of the
Kitagwenda NRM LC V candidate, Robert Mugabe.
The decision stems from a
complaint by a concerned resident, Kenneth Tumwebaze, accusing Mugabe of
forging his Primary Leaving Examinations – PLE result slip.
According to
a ruling signed by the UNEB Secretary, Dan Odongo, the UNEB Security Committee
invited Mugabe for a hearing on Dec 7 but he didn’t turn up. He, instead, ran
to Fort Portal High court and obtained an order restraining the examinations
body from probing the authenticity of his academic documents.
On Dec 14, the court dismissed his case with costs. Mugabe was again invited to
appear before UNEB on Dec 21 but he still failed to turn up, forcing the board
to take a decision in his absence.
“Basing on the material availed, UNEB Examinations Security Committee,
proceeded with the hearing and it was proven that you presented a forged PLE
result slip No. 33269/058 -1999 in 2014 when you sat for Uganda Certificate of
Education – UCE,” reads part of Odongo’s letter to Mugabe.
This,
according to Odongo, means that his UCE and Uganda Advanced Certificate of
Education – UACE, are also invalid because he obtained them using a forged PLE
result slip.
But Mugabe, who was nominated in September, says UNEB has never contacted him
about the matter, adding that it is unfair that a decision was made without
hearing his side of the story.
However, the
petitioner, Tumwebaze says he is happy about the decision and is waiting for the
Electoral Commission Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama to cancel Mugabe’s
nomination, which will leave his opponent unopposed.
Before becoming a district on July 1, 2019, Kitagwenda was been a county under
Kamwenge where Mugabe served as a deputy district speaker.
