Head teachers across the country petitioned the board after discovering that the results had unimaginable errors. They argued that while students performed well in similar subjects like Mathematics and Physics, almost all candidates failed the Technical Drawing test.
Uganda National Examination Board is withdrawing the 2014 Uganda Certificate of Education Technical Drawing Results after detecting errors in the tally, which led to unimaginable failures in schools across the country .
The Board reaction follows petitions by a number of Headteachers who queried the results owing to a dismal performance, described as the worst in Uganda\'s history. The Headteachers argued that while students performed well in similar subjects like Mathematics and Physics, almost all candidates failed the Technical Drawing test.
Kyambogo College School, one of the schools that have persistently excelled in Technical Drawing in the last few years queried the results after witnessing a drastic shift in performance in comparison to results from previous years.
Out of 31 students who sat for the paper, none got distinctions, only one person got a credit five and nine got credit six. Another six candidates got pass seven, 10 attained pass eight while five completely failed. In comparison with results for the previous year 2013, where four students got distinction two, 29 secured credits and only 2 passes, the school raised a red flag.
Samuel Kauma, the Director of Studies, Kyambogo College, says they petitioned the board after detecting an anomaly with the result.

UNEB has acknowledged the problem which it attributed to an error in tallying.
Hamis Kaheru, the UNEB Public Relations Officer explains that while Technical Drawing has three papers, one of which is compulsory and another optional, examiners divided the total tally by three instead of two, a mistake which lowered the average for all candidates.
Kaheru says UNEB after realizing the mistake is recalling the results and will issue a corrected result.

Kaheru however says the issue was blown out of proportion. He says when UNEB was releasing the results, they issued a circular to all the head teachers that the results released would be provisional. He says the head teachers were given up to February 27th to register complaints.
