Residents of Lokung Sub County in Lamwo district have discovered
three unexploded bombs in a farm belonging to Ngomoromo Primary School.
The Ngomoromo LCI Chairperson Bosco Kidega says the bomb was
discovered on Tuesday by parents and casual labourers who unearthed the devices
as they were preparing the school garden to embark on the tree-planting
campaign.
Kidega says the discovery of the ordinances briefly disrupted
studies after the learners fled the school and returned home.
He says that the discovery has evoked fear among the residents who
are worried that children could get exposed to the explosives.

Kidega says that the bombs could have been abandoned during the
war between the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels and government forces in
Northern Uganda.
Ngomoromo in Lokung sub-county which borders South Sudan and
Uganda was initially identified as a minefield since LRA rebels used the area
as an exit and entry route to and from the then Sudan during the insurgency in
Northern Uganda.
James Nabinson Kidega, the Lamwo Resident District Commissioner
says that the school garden has already been fenced off is under close surveillance
by the army. Kidega says his office has
already issued an alert to the explosive ordnance disposal personnel attached
to the 5th division Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) headquarters who are
expected to detonate the devices anytime.
