This group charged with the murder of Mbale Police Officer Fred Chemonges
The state has slapped fresh charges against three army deserters facing trial in the Army General Court Martial for aggravated robbery and murder of mobile money agents. 

They are Private Dennis Mangusho, formerly attached to the 63 Battalion, Lance Corporal Edward Mubbale, formerly attached to the Land Forces Headquarters, Bob Anichan, formerly attached to Uganda Military Academy Kabamba.

They are charged together with Stanley Mulunda alias Frank Jumba, a casual laborer and Issa Ntale alias Ganja, a Boda boda rider.  The suspects were charged on Tuesday with additional charges of aggravated robbery and illegal possession of fire arms and ammunition. 

 

The same group appeared on Monday before the General court martial for the murder of Raphael Walugembe, a student of Uganda Martyrs University and Mobile money agents Harriet Nalwadda and Moreen Nakabuubi and the robbery of Shillings 6.8 million from their victims.   

According to the new charges, prosecution alleges that on May 4th, 2019 while at Kivumbi Zone in Makindye Sabagabo in Wakiso District, the suspects robbed Osman Kaya of his Polythene bag containing clothes and a blood pressure machine.    

Prosecution told court that the suspects were found in possession of two magazines and 31 rounds of ammunition at a certain House in Lugala Masanafu, a Kampala suburb. 

Bob Anichan was charged separately in the same court with two others for the murder of Sergeant Fred Chemonges, a Police Officer formerly attached to Mbale Central Police Station.   

The other suspects are Musa Kikomeko alias Brown, a mechanic at Kisekka Market and Ronald Ssekiranda Kizito alias Joseph Ssebalamu Kamulegeya, a resident of Salama Road. 

Prosecution heard that on May 16th, 2019 while at Namwazi Village along Mbale-Nabumali Road in Mbale District the suspects shot Chemonges to death in a gunfire exchange. 

Two other police officers including Solomon Ikalati, Spanslaus Tukei and Charles Mukisa were injured in the shootout. Chemonges was pursuing the suspects who were driving in a Toyota Mark 2 with a fake registration number UAT 112A after raiding a mobile money agent.

According to prosecution, the correct number plate is UAP 283Y, which belongs to Godfrey Sengondya. The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges and were remanded until July 30th, 2019.
