Uganda People’s Defense Force-UPDF soldiers have heightened patrols in Lira town following increased attacks on boda-boda operators at night.

So far more than 20 cyclists have been attacked, and 10 killed during various night attacks by unidentified armed robbers within the past two weeks.

Some of the notable black spots include Ober Kampala and Ober Entebbe parishes, Kakoge parish all in Ojwina Division, Kirombe and Ayiira villages all in Adyel Division, Iredha parish in Central Division among others.

In Ojwina Division alone, about six cyclists have so far lost their bikes with two killed while others seriously injured.

Odongo described the deployment as normal to boost the Police who are also conducting patrols.

Other security measures include all bars and other night joints within the affected areas not operating beyond midnight.

James Omara Elem, the Lira district youth councillor welcomed the latest deployment of soldiers to conduct patrols.
