It's reported that a soldier at a rank of Lance Corporal attacked an officer at the rank of Major at his residence on Sunday evening, and shot him dead
A senior officer of the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces-UPDF has been shot dead and
another injured in a shooting inside Nakasongola Military Barracks.
It's reported that a soldier at
a rank of Lance Corporal attacked an officer at the rank of Major at his residence on Sunday evening, and
shot him dead
Lieutenant Ibrahim Ssekito, the Nakasongola Military Barracks spokesperson said
that in the attack, a junior officer who tried to arrest the killer was injured
and is currently hospitalized at Nakasongola Military Hospital.
Ssekito says that UPDF
soldiers are currently hunting for the killer who is on run. He, however, declined to
divulge details on the particulars of the deceased saying that the Army needed to first inform his relatives about his demise. Ssekito also declined to name the
suspect saying this may jeopardise efforts to arrest him.
However, a source from the barrack tells Uganda Radio Network (URN) that the Lance
Corporal attacked the major after he declined his request to grant him leave to attend to an
emergency at home. In vengeance, its alleged, the soldier returned with a gun and opened fire
killing the Major and injuring another officer before he fled.
