UPDF Pays Tribute To Late Maj. Gen John Lorot

“He fought for a good cause for this country. He led the forces that flashed out the LRA rebels from the north. The UPDF will always remember him, said Gen Muhoozi said while addressing mourners at Old Cell Town in Nabilatuk town council on Saturday.

The Chief of Defense Forces, Lt. Gen. David Muhoozi has eulogised the late Maj. Gen. John Lorot, the former Commandant of Jinja Cantonment as a fighter who contributed to the pacification of Northern Uganda from the rebel Lord’s Resistance Army- LRA insurgency.

“He fought for a good cause for this country. He led the forces that flashed out the LRA rebels from the north. The UPDF will always remember him, said Gen Muhoozi said while addressing mourners at Old Cell Town in Nabilatuk town council on Saturday.  

 Gen. Lorot was given a state send off with a 19- gun salute. Gen. Muhoozi contributed Shillings 5 Million to the family and handed over Shillings 10 million from President, Yoweri Museveni. The Nalibilatuk LC 3 Chairperson, Joachim Loduk also praised the late for his contribution to the disarmament process in Karamoja.  

“The late was a peace maker. He dialogued with elders to encourage our sons to return guns and embrace peace and development for a better Karamoja,” Loduk said. The Karamoja Affairs State Minister, Moses Kizige urged the family to stay strong and remained united to maintain the legacy of their father.  

The deceased’s first daughter, Gabriella Modo, who spoke on behalf of the family thanked government for giving her father a descent and befitting burial. "My father was a man who loved his family. He brought us up with love as a father not a soldier. I know he was a hardworking man. I thank government for such a befitting burial to our father," said Modo. 

Lorot is survived by 17 children and four grandchildren. He died on February 19th, 2020 at Nakasero hospital in Kampala where had been admitted with undisclosed illness on January 15th, 2020.
