The Uganda People’s Defense Forces – UPDF have recovered seven guns from the Jie cattle rustlers in the last two weeks along the Kenya-Uganda border in Kotido district.

The 5th Division Army Spokesperson, Lt. Ceaser Olweny told Uganda Radio Network on Wednesday that among the rifles recovered are two that the rustlers grabbed from the three UPDF soldiers they killed when they attacked Loyoro protected kraal in Kaabong district two weeks ago.

Olweny said they have so far recovered more than 100 cows that were stolen by the rustlers when they raided the kraal.

He said the operation was ongoing and that the army will not rest until all the 168 animals that were raided are recovered and the criminals apprehended.

He said they have captured one of the rustlers since they started trailing them.

Last week, the army together with officials from the anti-cattle theft group traced and recovered at least 80 of the stolen cows using the digital livestock identification system.

Joseph Komol Miidi, the Kaabong district LC5 chairperson said the owners of the cows were desperately waiting for the recovery of their animals.

Komol appealed to government to liaise with Kenyan authorities and organize a dialogue meeting between the Jie, Dodoth and the neighboring Turkana communities of Kotido, Kaabong and Kenya respectively to end the rampant cases of animal theft which he said is threatening the peace and security in the region.
