The Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF) has airlifted five former LRA abductees to Yambio town in Southern Sudan. The five abductees were rescued from the LRA by the UPDF in the DRC's Garamba forest in the ongoing operation lightening thunder.
The former abductees have been identified as Victoria Geriwa and her two children.
Others are John Isaac, John Lojong, Rosetta Borotiranite and Gislan Nyangi.
Captain Deo Akiiki, the spokesman of the Operation lightening thunder says that they have rescued 265 abductees 70 of whom are from Southern Sudan. He says that the UPDF have also handed over other captives to the government of the Western Equatorial state and Central African Republic.
Captain Ronald Kakurungu, the northern Uganda UPDF spokesperson says the joint operation against the rebels is succeeding. He says that the UPDF has established that the LRA leader Joseph Kony and his second in Command Okot Odhiambo have severed communication.
He has also denied claims that Kony had sent his two wives to the UPDF. Kakurungu says the two women are wives to Odhiambo wounded in the fighting. He says that Odhiambo's wives are receiving treatment at the Dungu tactical headquarters
