Uganda's team to the 10th East African Community (EAC) Military Games and Cultural Event traveled on Friday.
The 110 officers and militants of the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) left for Kigali, Rwanda after a flag off ceremony by Hon Lt Gen Ivan Koreta, a UPDF Member of Parliament.
Koreta said that Uganda will compete in football, Netball, Handball, Basketball and Cross Country.
Lt Gen Koreta reminded participants that they are going to contribute towards the continued widening and deepening of the EAC Integration. He added that they should uphold Uganda's and East African community image before the vigilant and watchful eyes of the media.
“Go out there, entertain East Africans and beyond, as you compete in your sports Disciplines.” He said, adding that, “We look forward to receiving your gold, silver and bronze medals plus trophies.”
The EAC military games and cultural events are part of the activities of the protocol on cooperation in the Defence among the EAC States. It is among others aimed at enhancing physical fitness among the EAC forces, sharing experiences, developing sports in EAC militaries, and promoting integration through cultural acclimatization.
The other teams that will compete in the 2016 Games will come from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania.
