UPDF Soldier Arrested for Shooting Traders

A Uganda People’s Defence Force- UPDF soldier has been arrested for shooting and injuring three businessmen in Kapchorwa town.

Ashraf Chalangat, 32 attached to 53rd Battalion in Kapchorwa was arrested on Monday evening while hiding in a banana plantation in Kapchorwa district.

Rogers Taitike, the Police Spokesperson Sippi Region says that Chalangat last week on Thursday went on rampage shooting people and injuring three businessmen.

The victims are Rajab Mudidi a resident of Iganga and a businessman who had gone to buy Irish Potatoes in Kapchorwa, Robert Nabuzo 29 years a resident at Kisenyi cell, Central Division in Kapchorwa town and Benjamin Seriongi a resident in Kapchorwa town.

Capt. Albert Arinaitwe, the UPDF Third Division Spokesperson says that Chalangat who has been serving in South Sudan went to Kapchemwany Supermarket in Kapchorwa town demanding to know from his uncle  where he had put all the money he had been sending him.

According to Arinaitwe, when the unidentified uncle refused to give him the money, Chalamgat angrily started shooting randomly.
