A Uganda Peoples Defense Forces - UPDF soldier has been found dead in Masindi district. The soldier has been identified as Private Amos Kengereni attached to the Masindi Field Artillery Barracks.
Captain Stephen Tumweisge, the UPDF Spokesperson in the Albertine told Uganda Radio Network (URN) in an interview on Thursday that the soldier was found lying dead in a garden in Kirasa cell, Central division of Masindi Municipality just near the UPDF Barracks.
The body was discovered by other soldiers who were moving next to the barracks on Thursday Morning.
The soldiers immediately alerted their commanders about the death of Kengereni. The body was immediately picked and taken to Masindi Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem.
Tumwesige however declined to divulge further details concerning the sudden death of the soldier adding that more details will emerge after a postmortem has been conducted to find out what could have caused his death.
Hamza Kabaka, the Kirasa Cell LC1 Chairperson says he came to know about the death of the UPDF officer after he noticed the presence of other soldiers and police in the area. He too declined to comment about the death of the soldier. By press time the body was still lying at the Masindi General hospital mortuary.
In October, 2020 a Uganda peoples Defense forces - UPDF soldier Lance Corporal Simon Bongomin attached to the Masindi Field Artillery barracks accidentally shot him self dead while in the barracks.
