Captain George Musinguzi, the Jinja Zone UPDF spokesperson, says nine UPDF soldiers attached to Magamaga cantonment have been arrested to further investigations.
Mayuge police are
investigating circumstances surrounding the death of Lieutenant Corporal, Joel
Cherukot a Uganda People’s Defense Forces-UPDF soldier.
Cherukot was killed on
Sunday and dumped at rail station in Magamaga town council in Jinja district.
He was pursuing a six
month’s engineering course at the UPDF School of engineering and Logistics. The deceased had wounds on the head. His right
hand was chopped off.
James Mubi, the Busoga East
Police Spokesperson, says the deceased was last
seen at Forest bar in Magamaga town council on Sunday evening.
“We have teamed up
with investigators from UPDF that interacted with locals who confessed that the
deceased was yesterday evening seen in the company of two colleagues whose
names have been withheld,” he told URN.
Mubi says preliminary
investigations indicate that the deceased was killed in the barracks and his
body dumped at the railway station
“Our preliminary findings indicate that, his
killers dumped him at the railway station to be crushed by the train as a means
of frustrating security investigations,” he said.

He says the suspects
are being held at Magamaga barracks pending instructions from the UPDF
The deceased’s body has been dispatched to Mulago National
Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
