Uproar as Maracha Ambulance is Grounded Due to Lack of Fuel

There is uproar in Maracha district as the only ambulance vehicle has been grounded due to lack of fuel.

The ambulance was grounded after AVSI, a non-governmental organisation that was fueling it winded up its operations in the district.    

The ambulance was donated by the Belgian Technical Cooperation-BTC more than six years ago to deliver emergency cases to Maracha hospital from lower health units.    

The grounding of the ambulance hasn’t gone down with the residents as they have to hire vehicles to transport their sick relatives to hospital.   

One of the residents, who didn’t want to be named, told URN that he recently found a huge challenge to rush his sick sister to the hospital.

The protests by residents have prompted Maracha district council to consider making an emergency provision for fuel for the ambulance through the office of the Chief Administrative Officer.  

Emmanuel Wani, the Maracha District Speaker, says grounding the Ambulance due to lack of is a disservice to their innocent voters.

Maracha Chief Administrative Officer, Christopher Okumu has promised to find all ways possible to fuel the ambulance that has been grounded for over three following the closure of AVSI activities in the district.
