URA Attaches Kamuli NAADS Funds

Uganda Revenue Authority-URA has attached 30 million shillings from the Kamuli Town council NAADS account of over the non remittance of Pay As You Earn monies-PAYE tax.
Uganda Revenue Authority-URA has attached 30 million shillings from the Kamuli Town council NAADS account of over the non remittance of Pay As You Earn monies-PAYE tax. The money was meant to be deducted from the allowances of councilors and submitted to URA. As a result, URA attached shillings 30 million from the town council NAADS accounts grounding its activities activities.

 

Dr Martin Muwanika, NAADS Coordinator Kamuli Town Council disclosed this on Friday, during a public accountability forum organized by the Prime Minister’s office. It came after residents tasked him to explain the poor performance of NAADS activities in Kamuli town council. They also complained about the poor quality seeds supplied to them under the NAADS program. In his response Muwanika said the implementation of NAADS activities has grounded to a halt following the attachment of its funds by URA.

His revelation didn’t go down well with residents who wondered why the two bodies had become a stumbling to the implementation of a government program. Lawrence Buteraba, Chairman Farmer’s forum chairperson said both NAADS and Kamuli town council are government bodies that should not resolve their differences at the expense of residents.

Robert Mukunya, Health Inspector Kamuli town council who represented the town clerk apologized on his behalf for the mess in the NAADS program. He explained that his boss had traveled to Kampala, adding that he had informed about the problem. Mukunya said that town clerk assured him that he would look for money from other revenue source to reimburse the money taken by URA.
