Uganda Revenue Authority—URA Football Club have been placed in the tough group for the 2012 Cecafa Kagame Club Championships that run from July 14 to 28 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

In the draws made on Friday morning in Tanzania, URA was grouped in Pool A alongside Tanzanian champions Simba, Ports FC from Djibouti and guest side Vita Club from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Vita Club is one of the oldest and popular clubs in DRC and was among four teams that had requested to take part in the event.

Coach Alex Isabirye admits that it is indeed tough but his target is to win at least two games to advance to the next stage. The revenue side will open their campaign against Simba on July 16, before taking on Vita Club on July 18.

Defending champions Young Africans of Tanzania are placed in Group C alongside Athletico Olympic of Burundi, APR of Rwanda and South Sudan’s Wau Salaam.

According to Nicholas Musonye, the Secretary General of the Council for East and Central African Football (Cecafa), a total of 11 clubs will contest the two week championship. The other clubs taking part include Azam from Tanzania, Mafunzo from Zanzibar and Kenyan champions Tusker, who are all in Group B. Sudan will however miss out on the event as their two teams El Merriekh and El Hilal are still taking part in the African Confederation Cup.

The Cecafa patron President Paul Kagame has already committed 60,000 US dollars as prize money to be shared among the top three finishers.
