UWA, Oyam District Officials Commends Myene Sub-County’s Anti-Poaching Initiative

During a recent meeting organized by UWA, Deputy Resident District Commissioner Richard Tabaro said Ogwal's approach has contributed significantly to curbing poaching activities, particularly in areas surrounding Murchison National Park.

James Ogwal, the LC3 Chairperson of Myene Sub-County, has been praised by Oyam district officials and the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) for his dedication to conservation and wildlife protection.

His approach of engaging poachers in dialogue has reportedly led to the voluntary surrender of over 30 illegal firearms in Myene Sub-County. 

During a recent meeting organized by UWA, Deputy Resident District Commissioner Richard Tabaro said Ogwal's approach has contributed significantly to curbing poaching activities, particularly in areas surrounding Murchison National Park. 

He has proposed to UWA to profile James Ogwal for a presidential medal in recognition of his impactful work toward conservation and wildlife protection.

Wilson Kagoro, Murchison National Park’s conservation warden, said plans are underway to honor Ogwal as a distinguished wildlife officer, alongside considerations for a national award.

Ogwal welcomed the recognition and expressed that the praise has further reinforced his commitment to championing conservation initiatives. 

He boasts of over 43 guns that his influence has triggered poachers to voluntarily return, besides inspiring many to exit unlawful practices.
