UWA Ranger Arrested for Killing Nephew in Sheema

The Police in Sheema District has arrested a ranger attached to the Uganda Wildlife Authority-UWA for allegedly shooting his nephew dead. The deceased was identified as Winston Mugizi, 38, a resident of Kashenyi Village in Bugongi Town Council.

The accused, Captain Peter Mweebwe is who works in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park reportedly shot his nephew after he accused him of allegedly taking cow dung from his kraal to use it as manure in his plantation without his consent.

Sheema District Police Commander Scovia Birungi said that the two had a prior misunderstanding after the deceased accused Mweebwe for failing to fence his cattle farm to prevent cows from destroying his plantation. At the time of the argument, the two relatives were reportedly drunk.

Birungi said Mweebwe was arrested on Monday from his hiding in Kashenyi as investigations into the shooting commence.
