Simo Dubajic, the chairman of Victoria University sports club says they might be forced to invade the European market for players to strengthen their team ahead of the new local season and the forth coming 2014 CAF Confederations Cup. The University side became the first Ugandan team to win a trophy in their first season in top flight football last month after they beat Vipers FC to lift the Uganda Cup trophy. The victory means Victoria University sports club will represent Uganda in the CAF Confederations Cup.
Dubajic told Uganda Radio Network this morning that they cannot just walk into the Confederations Cup to be beaten adding that, they are going to recruit some top class players and are considering tapping into the European market for good talent. Dubajic who is the brain behind the formation of the Club said he is very proud of their achievement of finishing fifth in the FUFA League and winners of the Uganda Cup. He explains that their target was to finish among the top five clubs in the League and also get to the quarter final of the Cup.
Dubajic says they are proud to have achieved their targets. The Club Chairman also heaped praise on the youthful coaches Alex Isabirye and Morley Byekwaso who took up the team in the second round after the Club parted ways with Sam Ssimbwa. He explained that the coaches have been very systematic, hard working and instilled discipline in the team. Dubajic said the achievements were made possible with the coaches’ good work.
Alex Isabirye says that after winning the knock out Uganda Cup, the targets of the club are now higher because they are not a small team anymore like many people thought. He says they are now thinking bigger and want to perform well at the continental level continental level.
