Wankole Sub County Embroiled in Land Wrangle

Through Kamu Kamu & Company Advocates, Minjo has written to Wankole Sub County indicating his intention to establish a sugar plant on the land.

Wankole Sub County in Kamuli district is embroiled in a dispute with a 90-year-old man over the land hosting the sub county head quarters.Minjo Muledu, a resident of Wankole village claims that she inherited the 30 acre piece of land hosting the sub county headquarters from her late father.

 

Through Kamu Kamu & Company Advocates, Minjo has written to Wankole Sub County indicating his intention to establish a sugar plant on the land. He argues that government has never compensated his family for the land despite the fact that, Wankole Sub County has been occupying it for 40 years.

 

George Wankona, the LC 3 councilor Lulyambuzi parish says a team of surveyors and lawyers from Kamu Kamu & Company advocates ambushed the sub county with an eviction notice last week.

During a mediation meeting convened by LCs to resolve the land dispute, Minjo waived a land title to prove his claim to the land.   Monica Mutesi, a councilor at Wankole Sub County says the dispute must be resolved by the Kamuli district land board.

 

David Kamu Kamu, a legal officer with Kamu Kamu & Company Advocates says they are ready to evict Wankole Sub County from the contentious land and redevelop it.

He explains to the Local Council officials that a land title for the land was processed in March 2013. Kamu Kamu said they will have no option but head to court is the sub county leadership fails to comply with the eviction notice. Kamuli district leadership has not yet commented on the dispute.
